The Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn (GFCLA) wishes to congratulate the City of Lewiston on the recent completion of the Riverside Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path, linking Sunnyside Park to Tall Pines Drive. This scenic urban trail through the heart of the city, which is accessible to all members of the public, including walkers, wheelchair users, and bicyclists, took vision and determination to design and construct.
This important trail network, connecting downtown residents to shopping, medical, and employment destinations, was first proposed in 2000 and has remained a priority to the city of Lewiston ever since. Over the years, the city of Lewiston has partnered with LA Trails, Androscoggin Transportation Resource Center, Maine Department of Transportation, J. Pratt Construction, Inc., Off Road Construction, Gorrill-Palmer Engineering, Inc., HNTB and many other experts. The city of Lewiston has also worked to secure multiple grants from the highly competitive MaineDOT Quality Communities Program. Their success speaks to the quality of this project. We would especially like to acknowledge and thank MaineDOT’s Dan Stewart for his long-term commitment to see this project successfully completed.
As one organization in L-A committed to improving the health of our residents to another that obviously shares this goal, GFCLA would like to express our thanks for this important piece of community infrastructure that will contribute to healthy lifestyles for area residents and visitors alike for generations to come.
