DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the Celebration & Public Launch of the Local Foods Local Places (LFLP) Community Action Plan for Lewiston-Auburn! The event will be held during the lunch hour (12-1) on Tuesday\, October 27th virtually via Zoom. \nRegister On Eventbrite Now  \nThe hour will include a brief presentation on how the Action Plan is engaging a wide variety of stakeholders to support opportunities for local farmers and businesses\, improving access to good food\, and using local foods as a catalyst for economic growth in Lewiston-Auburn!  There will also be Q&A and discussion with LFLP Action Leads about the work they are doing\, and opportunities to get involved in the plan’s implementation. \nThe event will also be recorded and posted on the Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn website\, goodfood4la.org\, for later viewing. Translated video recordings in several languages will also be available in the weeks following the presentation. \nTo add to the celebration and help support local food businesses\, the first 25 people to register will receive a FREE $10 voucher to a participating* local restaurant for lunch! \nThis is a FREE\, public event\, though registration is required!  Register here \n(All registered attendees will be emailed access information to join this online presentation by either video webcam or phone\, and the first 25 registrants will also receive info about picking up their lunch voucher and related details.) \nThis event was originally rescheduled from Spring 2020. \nHope to see you there! \n  \n*participating restaurants TBA \n

The weather gets chilly\, holidays are upon us\, and it’s the opening of The Lewiston Winter Farmer’s Market\, where you can still get your farm fresh goodies during the wintertime!  Located at the YWCA on 130 East Ave\, in Lewiston Maine. The only changes\, other than our location\, is that our market is now ONLY 10:00 AM TO 12:00 PM. Friendly Reminder: WIC and SNAP/EBT users are accepted! Also for SNAP/EBT we are still offering our dollar-for-dollar match with Maine Harvest Bucks!   Be sure to stop by and grab your weekly groceries\, or maybe start your holiday shopping at the Winter Farmers Market! DESCRIPTION:A Maine tradition\, close to 100 family farms will open their gates to the public this Sunday\, July 26 from 10am-3pm. Open Farm Day is an annual family event that connects consumers with the men and women who help produce their food. Activities may include barn and field tours\, milking\, hay rides\, petting zoos\, nature trails\, beautiful scenery\, samples for tasting and refreshments. \nFor more details on participating farms visit: http://www.getrealmaine.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/home.showpage/pageID/119/preview/true \nEvents like Open Farm Day have an impact on the Agri-Tourism in the State of Maine. According to the USDA\, in 2012\, AG Tourism & Recreational Services in Maine increased 78% (Increasing from $1\,012\,000 to $1\,803\,000) and participating farms increased by 141% (112 to 270 farms). Now is a great time for consumers to visit and support Maine’s farms and be part of the growing support for locally grown foods. According to Gary Keough\, New England Field Office State Statistician\, National Agricultural Statistics Service\, “the average size of a Maine farm is 178 acres\, up seven percent since 2007. Organic production and aquaculture sales increased from the last Census and the value of aquaculture sales increased from $26.3 million to $75.1 million (ranking us eighth nationally); organic products increased from $23.3 million to $36.4 million.” \nSource: www.maine.gov
