SUMMARY:COMMUNITY WORKSHOP & CELEBRATION to update the Local Foods Action Plan for Lewiston & Auburn
DESCRIPTION:Update: We have seen an INCREDIBLE response in registrations to this event!   We are excited\, and are looking forward to a wonderful event.\n\n\n\nWe have needed to change our registration form into a WAIT LIST\, as we assess our capacity to add more people. If you have not yet registered but still interested to attend\, please register for the WAIT LIST\, and if we have availability for additional attendees\, we will contact you via Email and/or Phone to confirm your registration as soon as possible: http://tinyurl.com/localfoodplanLA\n\n\n\nThank you for understanding!\n\n____ \nWe are excited to have you join the Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn\, St. Mary’s Nutrition Center and local food system leaders for this much anticipated event. \nThis will be an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the initial Local Foods Local Places Action Plan developed in 2019\, and continue forward momentum through the creation of an updated action plan and an emerging LOCAL FOOD VISION for our region. \nIn keeping with the spirit of the original plan\, participants will work together to bring forth a series of Goals and Actions with diverse municipal\, organizational\, and business leadership commitments that will support economic opportunities for local food businesses and farms; improve access to good food and land to grow food for all communities and; help catalyze the food system and economy of Greater Lewiston Auburn. \nThe event is FREE to the community and will include dinner highlighting local ingredients and connecting activities.  Stipends for participation\, childcare\, and language interpretation are also available as needed.  \nAttendees to the event will include individuals from the agricultural\, food business\, municipal\, education\, public health\, non-profit\, and philanthropy sectors\, alongside interested Auburn and Lewiston eaters (ie. SUMMARY:Youth Food Champion Awards at Bates MLK Day
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe invite you to join us for “Young Mainers’ Efforts for Food and Climate Justice”\, an in-person presentation with Q&A on January 15 \, 2024. The presentation takes place at 1:15pm in Pettengill Hall Room G21 during the annual Martin Luther King Jr Day Observance at Bates College\, the theme of which this year is “Food & Food Justice”. \nThe presentation will begin with the Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn’s annual Youth Food Champion Awards which will honor and celebrate the individual contributions toward a healthy local food system in alignment with the Lewiston Auburn Community Food Charter of the 2023 winners:  Brayden Nadeau (Auburn)\, Houda Aden (Lewiston)\, Isha Kasai (Lewiston)\, and Odivio Mariano (Lewiston)!   Ranging in age from 13 to 25\, the 2023 winners demonstrate incredible leadership as food systems changemakers:  from growing food for their community and sharing their experiential knowledge with local elected officials about the potential impact of land use decisions on the future of local agriculture\, to facilitating meaningful opportunities for their peers to engage with their food system while their deepening cultural and cross-generational connections\, and much more!
