If you have not yet registered but still interested to attend\, please register for the WAIT LIST\, and if we have availability for additional attendees\, we will contact you via Email and/or Phone to confirm your registration as soon as possible: http://tinyurl.com/localfoodplanLA\n\n\n\nThank you for understanding!\n\n____ \nWe are excited to have you join the Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn\, St. Mary’s Nutrition Center and local food system leaders for this much anticipated event. \nThis will be an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the initial Local Foods Local Places Action Plan developed in 2019\, and continue forward momentum through the creation of an updated action plan and an emerging LOCAL FOOD VISION for our region. \nIn keeping with the spirit of the original plan\, participants will work together to bring forth a series of Goals and Actions with diverse municipal\, organizational\, and business leadership commitments that will support economic opportunities for local food businesses and farms; improve access to good food and land to grow food for all communities and; help catalyze the food system and economy of Greater Lewiston Auburn. \nThe event is FREE to the community and will include dinner highlighting local ingredients and connecting activities.  Stipends for participation\, childcare\, and language interpretation are also available as needed.  \nAttendees to the event will include individuals from the agricultural\, food business\, municipal\, education\, public health\, non-profit\, and philanthropy sectors\, alongside interested Auburn and Lewiston eaters (ie. DESCRIPTION:Are you a food-loving person\, a cook\, baker\, grower\, or entrepreneur? Have you been thinking about starting your own business? Are you excited about the community development happening across Lewiston-Auburn right now?  \nIf any of the above rings true for you\, then mark your calendar for Tuesday\, October 26th 3:30-5:00 pm at the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center\, 208 Bates Street for a learning session about the new Community Food Center to be located on Pine Street next to Kennedy Park in Lewiston. This will be a chance for people to learn about\, and get engaged with\, an exciting vision for a vibrant multi-use community space that includes a cooperatively run low-cost grocery store\, shared commercial kitchen\, shared food storage\, and café. \n  \nThe Community Food Center (CFC) will increase access to healthy food\, provide storage and processing opportunities for local small-scale food producers and farmers\, provide opportunities for skills development\, and unlock job and ownership opportunities for community members. A feasibility study conducted by the Cooperative Development Institute (CDI) and the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center solidified the initial vision. In May 2021\, the City of Lewiston was awarded a $30 million HUD Choice Neighborhood grant to increase the quality of life for Downtown communities. The Choice Implementation plan designates space for the Center on the ground floor of a new 60+ multi-unit housing structure to be built on Pine Street next to Kennedy Park. The CFC is a part of the overall plan to enhance the health and wellness of the community.

SUMMARY:Taste the Harvest Dinner + Drinks
DESCRIPTION:Taste the Harvest is a community dinner that highlights and promotes our local food economy\, from farm to table. Guests will enjoy a multi-course collaborative dining experience al fresco\, with reserved table seating on Lisbon street\, a beer\, wine and cider garden in Dufresne Plaza\, and live music throughout. \nEvent attendees will participate in a social hour in the beer garden\, then use a dinner passport to access each course.  Dinner will be served at stations located on the street in front of each restaurant\, and enjoy their meal seated under the stars. \nFor this first annual event\, flavorful ingredients will be sourced from at least 10 local producers including  Little Ridge Farm\, Chirp Creek Farm\, Eli’s Homestead\, R. Belanger & Sons Farms\, Wallingford’s Fruit House\, The Sausage Kitchen\, Old Crow Ranch\, Levesques Organic Farm\, Stonecipher Farm\, and Pineland Farms. \nMenu creations and meals will be prepared by local chefs including Sonder & Dram\, Orchid Restaurant\, Mother India\, Cowbell Grill & Tap\, boba\, Break Coffee Shop\, and Isuken Cooperative Food Truck. DESCRIPTION:Come lend a hand\, help a farmer\, connect with community members\, and have some fun!  All are welcome to join us and the Androscoggin Gleaners as we harvest vegetables to reduce food waste and increase access to good food at Whiting Farm in Auburn!   This is a great activity for families\, work teams\, youth groups\, and any interested individual. \nWhat is gleaning?  Gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops from a farmers’ fields after they have been commercially harvested or on fields where it is not economically profitable to harvest. Gleaning helps to save fruits and vegetables from becoming food waste\, and can help increase access to good food when gleaned produce is donated to a food pantry – which is what we will be doing with all our gleaned food!  Gleaners will often help with other farm tasks as requested to maintain the reciprocal relationship of generosity. Whiting Farm has a new program this year called ‘5 Fields for Families’ in which 5 acres of crops are all grown to be donated to food insecure families. \nOn October 6th\, please bring: \n\nLayered clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather\, and that which you don’t mind getting dirt/muddy\nWork gloves if you have them\nFull water bottle\n\nRSVP is requested\, but not required.  We hope you can join us! \n \nThe Androscoggin Gleaners are a local group of volunteers started in 2018 that on a regular basis during the harvest season coordinate with local farmers\, food pantries\, and volunteers like YOU to set up gleans in the local region. According to the USDA\, in 2012\, AG Tourism & Recreational Services in Maine increased 78% (Increasing from $1\,012\,000 to $1\,803\,000) and participating farms increased by 141% (112 to 270 farms). Now is a great time for consumers to visit and support Maine’s farms and be part of the growing support for locally grown foods. According to Gary Keough\, New England Field Office State Statistician\, National Agricultural Statistics Service\, “the average size of a Maine farm is 178 acres\, up seven percent since 2007. Organic production and aquaculture sales increased from the last Census and the value of aquaculture sales increased from $26.3 million to $75.1 million (ranking us eighth nationally); organic products increased from $23.3 million to $36.4 million.” \nSource: www.maine.gov
